The Idea of North is teaming up with the world's most incredible jazz vocal percussionist, Kaichiro Kitamura (JAPAN), and bringing this incredible collaboration to Lismore! What Kai can do really does have to be seen - but even then you still won't believe it! Kai is well-known the world over as one of the only people ever to have mastered beatboxing in the jazz style. He performs regularly with his own jazz quartet (piano, bass, vocals) in Japan, as their actual drummer. Yes, his vocal emulation of the instrument is so complete he doesn't need a drum kit.

He's the groove to their jazz, the rock to their roll - an ideal and seamless addition to The Idea of North's joyously varied repertoire. An exciting evening of astonishing vocalisation and heart-warming music - an amazing collaboration in Lismore for the first time.

Don’t miss this rare occasion to experience the magic and wonder of these (now) five voices as they present beautiful, funky, hilarious and moving music for as many of we northern NSWelsh people as can make it along. Come and be moved like you wouldn’t imagine is possible through listening to voices alone!

This, the 16th instalment of original Australian music created for kids in hospitals, is the compassionate collaboration of three of Australia’s most loved musicians: singer-songwriter, Lior; vocal quartet, The Idea of North; and renowned composer, Elena Kats-Chernin with Adelaide’s own zephyr Quartet. After consulting with Australian children for lyrical guidance, they received responses filled with humour, wonder, excitement and surprising wisdom that spawned this inspirational suite. Listen closely and you will hear the children’s feelings, hopes and dreams. This joyous event will affect you deeply and positively.

Evening concert nearly sold out - matinee now on sale

As many of our supporters know, after twenty-four years The Idea of North's founding bass Andrew Piper is moving on, and of course we couldn't let him go without a proper hometown send-off. So join us in Canberra, back where it all began, for a trip down memory lane, and to welcome our wonderful new bass Luke Thompson to the family. The group's recently-departed soprano Sally Cameron is busy with her solo career and won't be able to join us, but we are delighted that The Idea Of North's founding soprano, Trish Delaney-Brown, will be with the group for this special 'farewellcome' event.
