For the first time in the festival’s history, a cappella and barbershop will cross paths and combine forces for an enticing workshop. Nick Begbie and Naomi Crellin, the creative team behind The Idea of North will lead the a cappella workshop, working closely together with barbershop leader Matt Gifford (NZ), the bass singer of the 2014 International Barbershop Quartet Champions, Musical Island Boys.

It is important to note that all singers for both the A Cappella and Barbershop Workshops will have the opportunity to work with Nick and Naomi between 9:30 am and 10 am and again between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm During the middle sessions, singers will be able to specialise in either a cappella with Nick and Naomi or barbershop with Matt. So many choices!

As many of our supporters know, after twenty-four years The Idea of North's founding bass Andrew Piper is moving on, and of course we couldn't let him go without a proper hometown send-off. So join us at one of our favourite Sydney stomping grounds for a trip down memory lane, and to welcome our wonderful new bass Luke Thompson to the family. The group's recently-departed soprano Sally Cameron is busy with her solo career and won't be able to join us, but we are delighted that The Idea Of North's founding soprano, Trish Delaney-Brown, will be with the group for this special 'farewellcome' event.

We are hugely excited to announce our first collaboration with the fabulous West Australian Symphony Orchestra: A World of Christmas, in which we will take you on a journey across the globe, exploring the musical smorgasbord of Christmas celebrations from numerous cultures. There will be time for delving into some of the most loved carols of our own culture as well as exposure to some lesser known, but beautiful music from other countries.

What could be better than amazing a cappella harmonies at Christmas? Amazing harmonies with full orchestral backing! We are super excited to share this experience with you, and just know that you'll walk away feeling enriched by the incredible sound of this collaboration and ready to tackle the crazy holiday season with a new appreciation for the way different people celebrate this most widely observed tradition.
